Liberian Curfew – a poem by a friend

Hi there

A writer friend of mine now based in Switzerland has had a very eventful life, and has just published a poem about one aspect of it. It is a quiet but powerful rendering of curfew in Liberia during those dark days of war:

Thank you, Althea, for underscoring some aspects that I would never have thought of. I've lead far too sheltered a life.

The sad thing is that, while the poem looks back to Liberia's civil war of 1989, it highlights events that are occurring elsewhere as I type these lines. Depressing.

However, the poem is full of the spirit of human resilience and resolve, so there's hope, I guess.
