This has been quite a busy day. I had my old, rickety, leaky garden shed replaced. It was never a great job in the first place – one of those cheapy, flimsy things. Useful enough to keep my lawnmower and bicycle and garden stuff, but getting increasingly worse and tilting over, a bit like Baba Yaga's rickety hut.
Its last day started crisp and clear, and continued with flurries of snow and an icy wind. But as you will see, the sun came out to light up its very last moments. The only reason it hadn't blown away during recent winter storms -- one of which ripped part of the roofing off -- is that it was nailed to some railway sleepers underneath it.
Here's the old shed being taken down by the young joiner. He started at 11:12am -- the sun's out!
Twenty minutes later, the new shed is already half-way up. It would actually have been quicker but we had a wee discussion of just how far off the ground the new shed should be. The joiners experimented a bit with the sleepers while I commented from on high...
12:26pm - Sorted! Only the rubbish from the old shed now has to be removed.
Lovely, innit? Mind you, it looks too yellow and I'll have to paint it. I'm thinking of a rich, deep purplish-red. Or should I get the same green stain as the fence behind it? Boring, no?
It was too cold to dally, and I had other (paid) work to take care of, so I didn't take any more photos. But I'll get a close-up soon.
The joiners left about an hour and a half after they arrived. Good work! And putting the contents back in took me about another ten minutes.
