Hiya
It's about time to tell you about a wee trip to Kerrera that I undertook with my goddaughter M. when she came to visit some weeks ago.
I've linked a website (click on the title to this post and you'll be taken there) that has some good info on Kerrera. It is a long, narrow island just outside Oban and shelters Oban Bay from the worst of the southwesterlies and is a very special place indeed.
We got to the ferry a bit too early -- I'd forgotten about the ferryman's lunch break -- so we climbed the hill on the mainland and looked out up the Bay and down Kerrera Sound. It was not very sunny at first but gradually got better and better.
The ferry crossing is much too short, really, but always fun. The ferry can only take a dozen passengers at a time (number of life-vests on board, I believe), so don't be shocked when the ferryman blocks your way. He'll be back in less than ten minutes' time.
I don't think I can ever get enough of the cloud formations in the big skies out here.
Once we were on Kerrera, M. got her camera out -- well, no, she preferred to do a contortionist's impression... M. and I were fortunate with the weather and had a great time walking hither and thither, enjoying the views. Eventually we arrived at Kerrera Tea Garden to enjoy a very tasty bowl of soup with bread as well as tea and coffee.
Afterwards, we risked snatching a look at recently restored Guylen Castle, … … dipping our feet in the sea (no pix here), and just generally enjoying life and being fit and healthy as we marched back to the ferry. We got there just in time, at 5:55PM (last ferry back to the mainland: 6PM).
More photos to follow shortly -- watch this space :)
