Spring proceeding apace

Hello again,
Introducing (above) this year's early bloomers on my balcony: tiny pansies and forget-me-nots as well as a very healthy and sturdy-looking (and wonderfully pungent-tasting) tuft of chives -- I had the first crop three weeks ago, earlier than ever -- with healthy-looking lavender leaves in the background.
Below: a glance at my neighbour's garden where a large shrub or small tree has been growing ever more golden. Clusters of tiny yellow flowers will hopefully grow into a cherry-like, tart deep red fruit with a pointy pit. We call these fruit "Tierli Chirschi" (animal cherries). They're extremely rich in vitamin C and make a great jam; messy business to get the pits out, though.

Early last week, I had visitors from Australia, a former student of mine and her partner. They were on a whirlwind visit to Europe: Paris, Zermatt, Berne -- the last to see a few friends and welcome a new niece, Sina, born last Thursday! R. brought me a big bunch of spectacular tulips, which I tried to capture for posterity:

At the office, we all feel sorry today to see the snow and cold descend on the magnolia outside our kitchen window. It's just opened up. I'm trying to capture the blooms for posterity, but with my very limited camera it's tough going. Still, as we're not monkeys who could swing out onto the branches to lop off a few and rescue them, this is as good as it will get.

Right now the snow has stopped, but fifteen minutes ago it was really coming down:
Here's hoping for sun and warm weather again soon. (Erm, did I say in a post last week that I wanted a proper winter?)
