Oban Sailing Club held the first New Year's Dip into the Sound of Kerrera outside its club house. Here we are posing for the assembled media – TV Alba, Oban Times, no less!
And here we are getting into the water:
Some of us are going gingerly – very slippy rocks and slipway – many young men jumped in without hesitation (not sure that was so wise but everyone was responsible for their own health and safety).

You are crazy.
Each to their own, eh?
It was a lot less cold than it all looks: the air was maybe five, six degrees C and the water about ten so it was actually almost warmer in the water than out, especially as there was also a breeze...
I've done a lot of swimming in fairly cold water so think I know what I'm doing. Some of the young people swim every day, no matter what the weather. I live just a bit too far from the shore or else might take this up as well – I've never felt so warm as in the 24 hours or so after this swim.
