A Winter Tour of Switzerland – Take Two: Le Pays d'Enhaut

On our first day exploring Switzerland, Lake Geneva didn't want to let go of its shroud of low-hanging cloud, so I decided we had better head for the mountains. By the time we reached Le Pays d'Enhaut (the land high up, the area between Montreux and Gstaad), the sun was already hanging low in the sky, leaving the rather scantily snowed-over landscape looking very blue and painting some of the clouds a pinkish hue.Sadly, that day, there were no hot-air balloons leaving Château d'Oex. We'll have to return some other time.
By the time we reached Gstaad, the light was already quite dim. We had tea at a time when EVERYONE was coming off the slopes. The crowds were unbelievable, the snow in the centre of the village churned to a mush. Very touristy! Good skiing, though, but not for us just then.
