Spring in Bern, II: Flowering trees and shrubs, bedding plants

Remember my magnolia pictures of early April (see above, and below, ten days ago)?
Yes, it's me again. I'm still catching up to post some of the photos I took before I went into the mountains last week. Some flowering trees I photographed earlier this month.
The first lilac bushes in full bloom (photographed just a week ago) -- I dedicate them to my (ex-)mother-in-law, Wilma, out in the Pacific North-West of the lovely U.S. of A. I hope you're doing well, Wilma, after breaking your hip.
A Japanese cherry in full bloom, also just a week ago. Now the blossoms are much paler, the pink leached by the strong sunlight. Petals are drifting to the ground, leaves are pushing out.
A late-blooming crab apple poking out of a hedge in the neighbourhood.
Not all trees are as spectacular. Here's a coniferous tree only just sprouting its new needles (above), and a flowering sycamore maple (below). The city's gardeners have been working wonders on some bedding plants. This lovely display of purple tulips and red, white and pink daisies sits on Falkenplatz at the top of the hill as one comes from the western exit of the train station. These are for my (ex-)sister-in-law R.P. in Portland, Oregon. She loves tulips. Next door, shrubs produced cascades of white through which sunny yellow tulips pushed their heads. For you again, R.!
And so is this one:
The magnolia tree outside our office kitchen is full of green leaves now. Here's a reminder of the glory that was only ten days ago or so:
Cheerio!
