What a beautiful day this is! Cold but clear and sunny, the sunlit white slopes of the Jungfrau soaring above the smog that all but obscures the lower-lying pre-Alps. It's good to be home but I didn't feel like leaving Scotland. One week is just long enough to get the hang of things.
Did I rave about the weather I was enjoying? Yes, and it continued in much the same vein, even up in Aberdeen. All in all, it was a very good week. I learnt a lot, met a lot of interesting people, saw some amazingly beautiful scenery and lovely fishing villages (well, these days more like holiday villages) up on the Banffshire Coast from Macduff to Gardenstown to Crovie (pronounced Crivie). I was reminded a lot of the Cinque Terre on the Ligurian Coast of Italy: steep cliffs, steep, narrow, winding roads down to a row or two of small houses clinging precariously to the rock. They have their gable ends to the sea to avoid the worst of the weather and salt spray. Must be impressive on a stormy winter's night. The Marine Aquarium at Macduff is a great way into the wildlife and enables even those who can't dive to appreciate the great variety of marine creatures. I'd have liked to have a lot more time in that area.
Pix will follow asap. Thank you for your patience.
